Natural-stone bathtub planning guide
Plan a marble or travertine bathtub around bathing dimensions, floor structure, drainage, access, lifting and maintenance.
Plan the bathing space and the stone envelope
A stone bathtub has two different sizes: the external object that must fit the room and the internal bathing space. Confirm external length × width × height, internal length × width × depth, rim thickness and the shape of the back and base. Review entry height and intended bathing posture with the project designer.
Verify the complete supported load
The local structural professional must assess the actual floor system for the stone tub, water and users. Do not rely on the weight of an empty tub alone. The support surface, load distribution and any required reinforcement depend on the building and must be resolved before delivery.
Fix the drain and filler strategy
Record the drain opening and centerline from two fixed external edges. Confirm the trap, waste route and access for future service. Decide whether the filler is floor-mounted, wall-mounted or deck-mounted; then verify spout reach, flow location and any stone holes. Faucets and drains are not included unless the listing explicitly says otherwise.
Draw the delivery route at crate scale
Check unloading equipment, gate and doorway widths, corridors, corners, elevator size and capacity, stairs and the final turning path. Reserve a protected staging area. The handling contractor should plan lifting points and equipment for the project-specific piece and crate.
Sequence finishes around the installation
Coordinate floor finish, waterproofing, wall surfaces and service access so the tub can be positioned without damaging completed work. Decide which joints need sealing and how plumbing will be tested. Keep access available until all connections have been inspected.
Plan stone-safe care
Use pH-neutral products labeled for natural stone and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners. Rinse and dry residue where practical. Sealing requirements depend on the material, finish, product and use; follow guidance from a qualified stone-care professional and the sealer manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you order
What dimensions should I confirm?
Confirm external length, width and height; internal bathing length, width and depth; rim geometry; drain position; and the clearances around the installed tub.
Who verifies the floor?
A qualified local structural professional must verify the actual floor and support conditions for the bathtub, water and user loads.
Are the faucet and drain included?
Not unless the current Etsy listing explicitly includes them. Select and coordinate local fittings before finalizing the stone openings and room rough-in.
